What Is Buildpacks?

Buildpacks is a tool that helps you make container images from your application's source code without needing to write Dockerfiles. It automatically figures out what type of application you're working on, sets up the right build environment, compiles your application, and creates a container image.

Buildpacks works with many languages and frameworks, so you can use it no matter what you're coding in, whether that's Java, Node.js, Python, Ruby, or something else. The container images it creates comply with the Open Container Initiative (OCI) standard, meaning they can run on any platform with an OCI-compliant container runtime installed.

Playground Notes

The playground comes pre-installed with all the packages you need to learn about and try out Buildpacks.

You can use the playground for 1 hour. If required, you can extend the usage by 15 minutes by clicking on the Extend lab by 15m button next to the timer icon.
