RDS Limit Violation Warning During AWS test level-1 - Need Clarification

Hi Team,

I received a warning for creating more than 2 AWS RDS instances during my lab sessions:

“Non-compliant: More than 2 total RDS instances detected (3). Allowed: 2.”

However, I only created the RDS instances as required by the lab instructions while completing an AWS practice test or task. I didn’t exceed any limits intentionally.

Could someone please clarify whether this was an error or how I can avoid it while still completing the tasks as asked?

Thank you!

Over the course of the entire test (all questions considered), how may RDS instances in total were you asked to create? If that’s more than 2 then I’ll report it.
These messages should only refer to playground labs, not KKE ones, however the same set of AWS accounts is cycled between playgrounds and all labs.
If you do find yourself losing access as a result of doing labs only then we will get you back in.

Hi Team,

Thanks for the response.

I’ve reviewed all the tasks I was assigned during the test. Out of all the questions, I was only instructed to create one RDS instance:

  • datacenter-rds-t3q2 – a MySQL instance provisioned with autoscaling and deletion protection as per the instructions.

I did not intentionally create more than one RDS instance. It’s possible that previous labs or playground sessions retained resources in the same AWS account, which may have contributed to this warning.

Additionally, when I noticed the extra RDS instances, I attempted to delete them to comply with the limit. However, I was denied permission to perform the deletion. I’ve attached a screenshot of the error message for your reference.

Please advise how I should proceed, and whether these older resources can be safely removed from my side or need admin intervention.

Thank you for your help and support.

Hey, I ran into the exact same issue!
I also started the test and found 3 RDS instances already in the “creating” state, and the test asked me to launch 2 more, which triggered the violation.

I wasn’t sure if we were supposed to delete or reuse the existing ones in the next questions either. I’ve attached a screenshot showing the initial state of the RDS instances in my case.

@aniketbhosale @Youssef10 A ticket has been raised to investigate this.

Nobody is going to have their account suspended for doing what it says in a lab or test (and if it is suspended by automation, we will unsuspend it).

The AWS accounts are recycled and shared between labs and playgrounds. The guardrails were added to stop people abusing the playgrounds.

Please try again. If you encounter any issues, feel free to comment on the post below. We’ve already resolved the issue mentioned above in the past by increasing the RDS limit.

Now, I am closing this topic.
