While doing the cluster upgrade activity on worker node, if there is a pod which is not managed by ReplicationController, ReplicaSet, Job, DaemonSet or StatefulSet. Should we use the --force option with the drain command? And if no, then how should we proceed with the upgrade activity in that case?

Yes use --force if standalone pod exist

If your question need restore standalone pod make sure you take yaml file before running this command

Get the yaml file of that pod so that you can create that pod again once the upgrade is complete.
