Not able to access Deepseek R1 model in AWS AI playground

Hi there,

PFA snapshot for reference, I am not able to access AI Model for testing

@ruturaj I’m facing the same issue as well. I hope someone checks this thread and helps us accordingly. Let me know if your issue gets resolved so I can follow the same steps to fix mine.

As far as I can tell, the UI in playground says that you have access to Deepseek R1. I’m not clear what path you guys are following where you’re not getting access, but I don’t think it’s with the model itself. Could you please describe, step-by-step, how you’re trying to get set up, and at what point you’re getting access denied? If you’re working in parallel with one of our courses, it would help, a lot, if you tell me what course you’re working off, and if possible, which lecture or lab.

Hi @rob_kodekloud, thank you so much for your quick response.
I’m surprised to see that the error I was encountering has now been resolved — it currently says “Access granted.” I’m not sure what changed.

Here are the steps I followed yesterday:

I was on this page: AWS AI Playground | KodeKloud. When I clicked on ‘Launch Now’ for Bedrock, it redirected me to a page where I was provided with a username, password, and console link.

Once inside the AWS console, I searched for Bedrock and navigated to the Bedrock console. These are the steps I followed:

  1. Clicked on Model Catalog
  2. Saw a message saying that models were available on request
  3. Selected DeepSeek‑R1 and, upon requesting access, encountered an error similar to what the OP experienced.

Yes, thanks @captinsoap05, I looked into it and the problem seems to be resolved.

@ruturaj Please try again.
