Anthony Damiro:
Morning… Can someone help me understand this better. So im taking the Linux RHCSA course to get certified. Im currently watching the SUID, SGID and Sticky Bit lecture and I want to understand the creation of the ‘Both’ file. Fact that the word both was used to describe an example of a sticky bit, when you want to list files with a SGID or SUID do you have to use the word ‘Both’? Could the ‘Both’ file be just any other file name? Whats the purpose of the ‘Both’ file created?
Al West:
both
is just the name of the file, it is not a special filename.
Anthony Damiro:
Thank you
Anthony Damiro:
So in this case, the file ‘both’ has a permission of 6000. Meaning the file has been set with both SGID and SUID, correct?
Al West:
No both
has permission of 6664 - which is SGID and SUID have both been set
Anthony Damiro:
I think what I was trying to say is that the file ‘both’ is set with SGID and SUID?
Al West:
Yes both are set.
Anthony Damiro:
Ah! now it make sense. Thanks’ so much for the clarification.
