Hi there, I am new to Kodekloud, and was wondering what you have found successful in retaining information when completing the various courses, I started to take notes then realised we have notes available to read on Git and in PDF format.
Would you say my focus should be on watching the videos rather than taking notes?
Psychologists who studying learning talk about the superiority of “active learning”. Watching a video is passive, and by just watching it, you won’t retain the material very well. I’d say you want to do something like this:
- First watch the video, so you know what’s in it.
- Watch it again, and try to summarize the main points of the video, the way you might do with a lecture at university.
- Do any labs connected with the video, and edit your notes from what you learn in the labs.
- If you’re still unclear on things, watch the video for review.
This is a bit extreme – you won’t need to do all of this for material you find easy. But by engaging with the material, you’ll remember more, and you’ll retain more information.
