Hello, I am currently a student wanting to learn DevOps in depth. Do you guys find playgrounds to be helpful? I do consider using my budget on AWS or myb VPS to learn the concepts in detail. I don’t have much information about devops tools regarding kubernetes or dockers (I know but not proficient) and cannot imagine how the playgrounds actually work to help me understand these tools. Also any tips regarding the road/learning map of DevOps is welcomed, Ty ![]()
With our Pro subscription, we give you access to our playgrounds. Generally, they’re good to get an introduction to a variety of common platforms you can encounter in devops. They’ll let you do basic tasks, try out things quickly, and do tasks that don’t take that long (typically an hour, although our cloud playgrounds allow for 3 hours).
They’re not so good if you want to go into depth with less used or potentially “riskier” tasks that can generate a lot of costly infrastructure quickly. For those tasks, you’re better off getting a personal account for the cloud provider and carefully reading the providers instructions how to set a budget to limit the amount of money you can get charged, and to make sure you’re notified if you’re doing something that is likely to cost you money.
Our playground environments are limited to prevent this, which will keep you from getting these kinds of charges. But it can be frustrating getting around the “guardrails” we need to use to keep the playground subscriptions “affordable” – for those purposes, you’ll need your own subscription.
