Career Advice for platrom engineer in cloud

I have worked as a platform engineer for around 4 years in mastercard. I was working on a project which I mastercard have purchased and the task was to migrate the project in mastercard environment so that it has mastercard policies, infrastructure etc everything as per mastercard. It was on prem. My role I feel was not much related to platform engineer as the tool I worked was on gitbash, bitbucket, F5 and for connetcivity there was mastercard tools known as Network as a Service. I was ordering the ports , DNS and F5 load balancer. Now I want to work as a platform engineer where there will be cloud techologies or any technologies which modern day platform engineers requires to get a job. By learning the tools I also want to work on platform projects which I tried but can see it is not available on Internet whereas I can see there are only devops projects. So can I practice devops projects and also how heplful it will be for me to apply for platform engineer. I have seen your roadmap for platform engineer on KodeKloud so it that enough to practice and does it contain projects as well.

Hey ManishPal,

Yes, practicing DevOps projects is helpful because there’s a big overlap in tools and concepts used by both DevOps and platform engineers, especially around automation, CI/CD, and infrastructure as code. Your experience with F5, DNS, and internal tools already shows exposure to foundational platform concepts, even if not in a cloud setting. Since dedicated platform engineering projects are hard to find online, modifying DevOps projects to focus on scalability, reliability, and developer experience is a good approach. The KodeKloud roadmap is a solid starting point, but adding cloud-specific hands-on labs (AWS, Azure, or GCP) will make your learning more practical and job-ready. This combined approach can help bridge the gap and better prepare you for modern platform engineer roles.
