Job descriptions ask for both. Do I need to be proficient in both devops and cloud to ace the interviews?

Yes, in my view, most companies require DevOps to know how to deploy applications on cloud platforms like AWS or Azure. Some companies have a dedicated system team that manages on-premises servers and provides virtual machines (VMs) for the DevOps team. The DevOps team then sets up open-source tools like Jenkins for CI/CD or Kubernetes to manage application services. Overall, most companies use cloud platforms and rely on managed services.
Thanks for the details. I started following the devops engineer learning path and I didn’t see any cloud courses listed. That’s why I was confused, what to pick up. I am a QA and I want to transition to devops. I don’t know what to follow. 
We can work as DevOps without deep cloud knowledge, but these days, the IT industry, especially DevOps, is highly competitive. Most companies only have 1-3 DevOps engineers, and only large companies have dedicated infrastructure teams. This means we often need broad knowledge to secure a job. In my opinion, you might want to consider starting as a Cloud Engineer to gain experience before transitioning to a DevOps role.

I would suggest to start with Linux first and then focus on Cloud, Containers, CI/CD and a language for automation.
You need the foundational level knowledge of these technologies to start your journey.
