You need to provide read and execute permissions. The scripts need to be read from memory and then executed.

Problem with bash script

It does. You cannot execute that which you cannot read first. Look at it this way. You are in a kitchen which is where you execute a recipe - so you have execute rights by being allowed into in the kitchen. But unless you have first read the recipe, how do you execute it? If the recipe book is in a locked cupboard then your read right is to have the key to the cupboard. A computer program is a recipe. The filesystem is the recipe book. The CPU is the chef.
